Inside the walls

A few random pictures from inside the walls. I was particularly taken by the protection at the window. Made of cast iron, it looked original.

The bottom picture is the outside of the hotel.

The walls

On the ground, these are the outside of the walls. Many of them are three metres thick, with narrow slits so the archers could shoot arrows through.

In the beginning

Karen and I are both Francophiles. We've been there several times and we love the place. Karen speaks fairly good street French and I know enough to get into trouble. This year, we decided we wanted to go back and find "our place", where we'd spend a lot more time each year. We flew into Paris and then south-west to Carcassonne, a medieval village.
